• If you're new to Pilates or joining an existing class (not Beginners only), I recommend an initial one-to-one assessment.

This allows us to evaluate your posture, individual needs, and medical history, while teaching you the Pilates principles and how to apply them to your body. The assessment ensures you join the most suitable class at the right level. This is essential for anyone referred by a medical professional or wishing to join Back4Good classes.

 FAQs

  • Fitted, comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely - leggings or fitted joggers with a supportive top work best. Avoid baggy clothes that can get caught in the springs or carriage. You'll work in grip socks or barefoot, so no trainers needed. Grip socks are recommended as they help prevent slipping on the carriage and footbar.

  • Absolutely. The Reformer is actually one of the most beginner-friendly pieces of Pilates equipment because the springs provide support and feedback throughout each movement. In beginner classes, we start with foundational exercises and proper form before progressing. The adjustable resistance means we can make exercises easier or harder to suit your current fitness level.

  • The Reformer uses springs to add resistance and support, making some exercises easier and others more challenging than mat work. The sliding carriage creates instability that forces deeper core engagement, while the springs provide constant feedback about your alignment and control. Many people find the Reformer more accessible than mat Pilates because the equipment assists with certain movements, particularly if you have limited core strength or flexibility.

  • Most people notice improvements in posture and core strength within 3-4 weeks of attending twice weekly. For significant changes in muscle tone, flexibility, and overall body composition, aim for 2-3 sessions per week consistently over 8-12 weeks. That said, even once-weekly sessions will maintain strength and mobility when combined with other activities.
