About Rachel Luxon Pilates
Your Pilates Instructor in Skipton and Barnoldswick
Being lucky enough to come from a background of varied interests and careers, one of the things that has always been a constant for me is movement and my fascination with the human body, health and moving well.
Following an illness in 2007 which left me with ongoing health issues, I knew that movement would be an integral and essential part of my recovery. The questions was – what sort of movement would help me? I have practiced Pilates in one form or another for over 22 years but discovering Body Control Pilates allowed me to find a framework in which I could discover my own body’s needs, and to listen to what it had to tell me in order to heal and challenge myself in a relevant and healthy way.
I subsequently qualified as a Body Control Pilates teacher in 2016 in the hope of helping many others to heal and learn about their own body and healthy movement. I consider myself an eternal student – constantly updating my training and learning through Body Control Pilates and further afield with various mentors and instructors from around the world. I am also a registered Supervising Teacher for Body Control Pilates – offering my services and years of experience to help teachers who are undergoing training to experience supervising hours of teaching and learning with me at my studio in Skipton
I strongly believe that an awareness of how we move, and learning or reinforcing healthy movement patterns can totally change people’s lives in a positive way. Within my teaching I aim to help others to learn about their own body and movement patterns and have the reward of seeing the benefit and positive change this can have with so many of my clients.
I am fascinated in how Pilates can help with functional movement and specialise in making Pilates accessible and beneficial for everyone, from complete beginners to experienced practitioners.

What My Clients Are Saying
Background and Specialisations
Together we can help and heal and have fun with movement! I am always astounded at how amazing the human body and mind is!
I am a very active person, loving the outdoors and the freedom it offers and always take my Pilates and movement practice out on walks with me – transferring everything I learn into the way I move and connect with nature from squatting to do the gardening to walking barefoot in the hills! From being aware how I sit or stand at my desk to how I move my body to free my voice in vocal practice.
Through my Pilates practice and training, a whole holistic world of healing has opened up to me over the years. As an ex showjumper having competed on the GB teams and still being passionate about horses, I found how Pilates can totally transform peoples riding and balance with and for the horse. I love working with riders and offer Equine Pilates classes and private sessions at my Skipton studio and am also available for workshops at equine facilities. As a former international Opera Singer, I have also trained as a Voice Gym coach through Body Control Pilates and see the amazing benefits of incorporating movement with the voice to free its powers.
Over the years, I have found the holistic worlds of myofascial release, trigger point therapy, breath work, studied massage, breathing techniques and discovered how they all are an integral part of our healthy movement patterns and mind body connection. This has led me to also train as a Hypopressives teacher which is the most amazing breath and movement practice which can yield astounding results for everyone and especially anyone suffering with Pelvic floor dysfunction – It can offer transformative healing powers for many people and give them back the confidence and freedom to do what they want without the fear that often goes with pelvic organ dysfunction or prolapse.
I hope that through my teaching I can help others to find this connection, to experience the joys and healing power of movement. It is my passion to help people to take what they learn in the Pilates studio whether on mat or all the amazing apparatus designed by Joseph Pilates into their world — be it for rehabilitation after injury, to improve sporting technique, to perform better on stage or in saddle or to be able to move and function pain free.
