If you're new to Pilates or joining an existing class (not Beginners only), I recommend an initial one-to-one assessment.
This allows us to evaluate your posture, individual needs, and medical history, while teaching you the Pilates principles and how to apply them to your body. The assessment ensures you join the most suitable class at the right level. This is essential for anyone referred by a medical professional or wishing to join Back4Good classes.
Studio/ Apparatus Classes
Experience classical Pilates on specialised equipment. Private, duo, and small group sessions with individual attention from Rachel using the Reformer, Cadillac, Tower, Wunda Chair, and Ladder Barrel.
What to Expect from Apparatus Pilates Classes
Studio sessions using the Pilates Apparatus offer the ultimate traditional Pilates experience as taught by Joseph Pilates in his New York Studio. Pilates developed the matwork and all the apparatus as a system to support his method of Contrology (the name given to his work).
Rachel Luxon Pilates offers private and semi-private sessions on all the Apparatus so you can get the most out of your Pilates practice using a full system of exercises as Joseph Pilates intended.
Small group attention: Maximum 4 people means genuine personalisation. Rachel adjusts springs, selects appropriate apparatus, and modifies exercises for each individual within the session.
What to bring: Fitted workout clothes (loose clothing can catch on equipment), grip socks recommended, water bottle.
Suitable for Every Level
With a system of springs and pulleys the Apparatus offers an adaptable system of support. Fantastic for rehabilitation, sports training, working on symmetry and to ease back issues we can modify everything to meet your needs.
The Apparatus helps you find that sense of internal space within your body that allows you to increase your strength and flexibility and enjoy a sense of freedom within your movement along with knowing that you’re working hard!
The apparatus gives you feedback so that you know how a movement should feel. You’ll discover that you’re building strength and mobility faster than you imagine you could.
Sessions are fun and offer variety as you move from one piece of apparatus to another. You’ll experience how the same exercise can feel so different on the varying apparatus and learn what your body needs.

FAQs

Rachel uses apparatus as an integrated system, not separate isolated tools. She strategically selects which equipment to use for each exercise based on your individual needs - the Reformer for one movement, the Wunda Chair for the next, the Cadillac for another. You're working through comprehensive Pilates practice with equipment chosen specifically for your body.
-
No. All apparatus suit all levels. The same exercise can be made accessible for beginners or extraordinarily challenging for advanced practitioners through spring adjustments and equipment selection. Rachel adapts how the apparatus are used based on your current capability.
-
No. We use apparatus as an integrated system. Rachel strategically selects which equipment to use for each exercise based on what your body needs - support to make movement accessible or challenge to deepen your practice.
-
Apparatus support your journey toward that mastery. The control you develop on the Reformer, the balance you build on the Wunda Chair, the mobility you gain from the Cadillac - all transfer back to mat work.
