If you're new to Pilates or joining an existing class (not Beginners only), I recommend an initial one-to-one assessment.
This allows us to evaluate your posture, individual needs, and medical history, while teaching you the Pilates principles and how to apply them to your body. The assessment ensures you join the most suitable class at the right level. This is essential for anyone referred by a medical professional or wishing to join Back4Good classes.
Ladder Barrel Pilates
Dynamic Pilates work using the curved barrel and ladder combination to deepen stretches, strengthen your core, and improve spinal flexibility.
What is Ladder Barrel?
A specialised piece of equipment combining a padded barrel with an attached ladder, designed to support and challenge your body through deeper stretches and more advanced strengthening work.
The barrel's curve naturally supports your spine while the ladder provides anchoring points for your hands or feet, allowing for controlled movements that target core stability, back strength, and hip flexibility.
Who is it for?
Regular Pilates practitioners looking to advance their practice, anyone wanting to improve spinal mobility and posture, or those recovering from back issues under professional guidance.
The equipment offers excellent support for stretching tight hip flexors and strengthening the posterior chain. Suitable for intermediate to advanced levels.

The Ladder Barrel excels at spinal extension and flexibility work. Its curved barrel provides supportive positioning for backbends, side stretches, and abdominal strengthening that would be difficult or uncomfortable on other apparatus.
It's particularly valuable for improving spinal mobility, opening the front body, and developing controlled movement through the spine.
-
No. The Ladder Barrel actually helps you build flexibility safely. The curved surface supports your spine while you work, making extension and stretching accessible regardless of your starting point.
Rachel adapts exercises and positioning to suit your current range of motion.
-
While the Reformer and Cadillac focus on spring-based resistance, the Ladder Barrel uses its curved surface to support and challenge spinal extension.
It's specifically designed for backbends, side stretches, and abdominal work where the barrel's shape provides ideal positioning. Rachel often uses it alongside other apparatus within a session.
-
Ladder Barrel work is included in apparatus sessions, not taught separately. Rachel strategically uses the Ladder Barrel alongside other equipment based on what your body needs.
